This article from The Age out of Australia discusses the effects of dementia on sexual behavior.
“While Mrs Fairhall loved their intimate connection, she says sometimes the mismatch in their desire for sex became difficult. For many years, she grappled with these issues privately because they were too difficult to talk about with friends and family, and health professionals never seemed to ask leading questions that would prompt the discussion.
Despite being raised in a family where discussions about sex were taboo, Mrs Fairhall, 71, has chosen to speak out about her experience because she suspects too many people do not understand the many varied and complex sexual issues dementia raises. This week the world’s attention was drawn to the case of an American man charged with sexually assaulting his wife while she was living with dementia in a residential aged care facility.”
